Beacham & Company is a residential real estate company specializing in homes located in Atlanta’s most affluent areas. Founded in 2006, they have earned a reputation for being one of Atlanta’s premier real estate companies.

Challenge

In 2009, we were charged with taking the property search functionality from the Beacham & Company website and creating a version formatted specifically for phones and other hand-held devices. The client wanted to keep the core functions of the site intact, yet provide attractive display and robust performance on a variety of phones and wireless devices. Most recently, the client requested that we implement a new feature on the mobile version: GPS-enabled search.

Solution

Since mobile devices generally have a slower connection to the Internet and a significantly smaller viewing area than desktop computers and laptops, it was important to only display the information relevant to someone who is on the go, or even on the way to an open house. The resulting interface allowed house-hunters to locate properties through simplified search filters, as well as via GPS.

The GPS search functionality uses a smart phone’s location to identify properties for sale or lease within a designated radius of the viewer and displays the search results, including photos, just as the system displays other home listings.

Results

In addition to the lean, mobile property search, we also created a mobile- version of the agent roster and other pages from the original website. The mobile version of Beacham.com provides all of the power behind the website’s real estate search engine, and supplements it with a convenient new way to find houses for sale in the immediate proximity of the mobile website user.
